Quite Generic at the General Assembly

Today, First Lady Michelle Obama joined her husband in New York City. She watched from the audience as President Obama addressed the world leaders during the General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters. This annual event exists to highlight the current global issues of poverty, war and environmental degradation.

Mrs. Obama, seen seated beside the wife of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, wore a printed, eggplant colored sheath by designer Peter Som. This style is perfect for Michelle! The pleating at the neckline creates the allusion of a larger bust, evening our her otherwise pear silhouette.

Tuesday evening, September 21st, the first lady joined President Obama at The White House in presenting the Medal of Honor posthumously to the sons of United States Air Force chief master sergeant Richard Etchberg for his courage and bravery while serving in Laos in March of 1968. Etchberg died saving three of his fellow airmen. However, his heroic deeds have been kept hidden away for over 40 years because his Vietnam-era mission was secret.

At this event, the first lady blue and green Barbara Tfank dress with a sweetheart neckline and high-waist vertical pleating. She added her classic double-strand of pearls to this ensemble, completing her posh look. This style lookks great on Mivhelle! The long vrtyical pleating on the dress in flattering to any woman’s figure; the pleating presents the allusion of a longer body rather than a wider frame.

This dress was in Barbara Tfank’s 2010 fall collection. Do you like this designer’s fashion taste? Does it fit Mrs. Obama’s style?

President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and their two daughters, Sasha and Malia, attended a church service Sunday morning at St.John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. Luckily, the President had no public events scheduled for the day!

For this occasion, Michelle chose to wear a bright, floral Thakoon dress. Completing her ensemble, Mrs. Obama accessorized with a double strand of pearls, soft green pumps and covered up with a beige. Sasha and Malia each wore a sundress paired with a cardigan, and President Obama wore a fashionable suit with a double-button sport jacket, in the style popularized by JFK in the early 60’s.

I wonder if Mrs. Obama helped dress her daughters this morning? This style of sundress paired with a cardigan has “Michelle” written all over it. However, the cardigan, a look popularized by the first lady in 2009, is the perfect cover-up for a sun dress at this time of year; the girls look great! Michelle, on the other hand, what was she thinking? Newsflash! It’s September now and our summer colors are back in the closet. In my opinion, this dress is too bright and flowery for this time of year, but to each his own, I suppose.

On A Trend of Hollywood Glam

Wow! Goodbye pantsuits and hello movie star glam! First Lady Michelle Obama looked absolutely stunning Saturday night, September 18th,  at the annual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Phoenix Awards dinner. Judging from the smile on President Obama’s face, it looks like he agrees.

This empire waist gown looks absolutely flawless on Mrs. Obama’s silhouette.; it accentuates her waist makes her legs look a mile long!She kept her hair pinned back, much like her faux bob of last year, and accessorized this look with dramatic earrings. To add even more to this amazing look, the gown was red! It seems that this bold red has become a signature look of Michelle. This color has yet to fail her! I give this look 2 thumbs up!

You’ve finally found it, the perfect dress! You’ve scurried all over town, tried on innumerable skirts, pants, cardigans, blouses, searching for the perfect outfit for your special occasion, and you’ve finally found it. Now, only one question is left unanswered, what shoes to wear? For, as the factual saying goes “the right shoe completes the outfit”.

Search no longer! The simply chic ballet flat is the ideal shoe for any occasion. Whether dressing up for a night on the town or in a sundress for a day at the park, the ballet flat is right for you. From Abigail Adams’ “evening slippers” to Michelle Obama’s “ballet flats”, the first ladies have worn these shoes for many years. They have been worn to ritzy balls in the White House, on campaign trails speaking to the public and out to picnics with the first family.

When choosing your flat, the decision of the color, print and fabric should be based on where you will be wearing these shoes. Choose a solid patent finish for a fancy event, pick a metallic color for the town or be ready for fun in the sun with a bright plaid. When completing your outfit and in doubt, go to the shoe that never makes a mistake, the ballet flat.

Stylish Shine or Bright Bulge?

Wednesday night, September 15th, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama attended the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s 33rd Annual Awards Gala at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. President Obama not only attended, but also spoke at this event. Along with the first couple, other popular figures in the audience included Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and actress Eva Longoria Parker.

For this occasion, Michelle opted for a metallic look, one of this season’s hottest trends, according to Vogue. She strutted onto the stage in a bronze, sequin dress by one of her favorite designers, Moschino. This look was accentuated by her dazzling, round earrings and gold, peep-toe pumps. President Obama chose to keep his look classic, wearing a traditional double-button tuxedo.

I’m a fan of President Obama’s classic double-button tux; this double-button jacket, popularized by Kennedy in the 1960’s, looks great on almost any man’s physique. However, what was Michelle thinking? This look might go over well on the runway, but not on Michelle’s pear silhouette. The shininess of this dress draws the viewers attention to bulges and problem areas that would otherwise go unnoticed. In my opinion, this dress could only be carried off by incredibly thin supermodels. Good try, Michelle! Maybe you’ll get it next time.

However, this is just my opinion. How do you think Mrs. Obama looks? Fashionably correct?

Stylishly Chic vs. Classically Elegant

Yesterday afternoon, First Lady Michelle Obama joined Former First Lady Laura Bush in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania for ceremony honoring Flight 93 of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Along with the first ladies, many more were gathered around the sight to listen to Laura Bush speak and pay tribute to the 40 fallen heroes of United Airlines Flight 93 on the ninth anniversary of September 11, 2001. According to The Washington Post, this day was also the first time these two first ladies have shared a stage since the inauguration of President Obama; consequently, I do not find this as a surprise. Laura Bush was dressed in a natural-hued, tweed skirt suit with what seem to be this season’s most popular nude pumps. She accented this look with pearl earrings and her usual, bold red lips. Michelle, on the other hand, chose to wear a streamlined, blue silk shantung pant suit with the perfect, figure flattering seaming in a vertical line down her jacket, a look designed by Narciso Rodriguez. A small, diamond flower brooch at Mrs. Obama’s shoulder completed this ensemble.

I usually prefer the tastes of Laura over Michelle; however, on this occasion, I definitely think Mrs. Obama’s outfit is much more chic than that of Mrs. Bush. In my eyes, they both dressed appropriately for the occasion, but Michelle’s ensemble seems to outshine Laura’s outfit. Then again, how many people does she have dressing her again?
